Dominica's government has moved the deadline for adopting E-passports from July 30, 2023 to August 30, 2022. According to the authorities, the recent update was made because the Dominica government recognizes the need for Dominica to join global efforts in providing people with more safe and secure travel options.
The new E-passports, which were introduced in July 2021, have replaced the traditional machine-readable passport and include both overt and covert security elements.
Before the elections in 2019, the government made the decision to replace regular form passports with new biometric-enabled E-passports.
The most advanced passports contain a chip that aids in the authentication of the passport holder's identity while adhering to the highest international standards.
